Frequently Asked Questions
How long are sessions and how often do they take place?
Sessions last 1 hour. These are usually held weekly at the same time each week, although fortnightly sessions or monthly check-ins can also be arranged.
Regular sessions are recommended to support the therapeutic process.
How much do sessions cost?
Sessions are £50 each. Payment is required in advance of each session and can be made via bank transfer.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 48 hours’ notice for cancellations. Where possible, I will offer a rescheduled session within the same week.
If this isn’t possible, a 50% cancellation fee will apply.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes — everything discussed in sessions is confidential.
There are some important exceptions where confidentiality may need to be broken, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, safeguarding concerns, or if required by law. Wherever possible, this would be discussed with you first.
What if I need support between sessions?
You are welcome to contact me by email or phone for practical matters, but I am not able to provide therapeutic support between sessions.
If you need urgent support, you can contact your GP, NHS 111, or emergency services. We can also create a safety plan together if this would be helpful.
Do you offer support for complex trauma and dissociation?
Yes — I have specialist training in complex trauma and dissociation. I work in a way that is paced, collaborative, and mindful of safety, recognising that this kind of work often requires care, flexibility, and trust-building over time.
Is your practice inclusive?
I aim to offer a welcoming, inclusive, and affirming space for people of all backgrounds. I am mindful of how identity, neurodiversity, and wider social or systemic experiences can shape mental health, and I work in a way that respects and supports your individual experience.
Can counselling be adapted to my needs?
Yes — I will always aim to make counselling as accessible as possible. We can discuss any adjustments that may help you feel more comfortable, including sensory needs, communication preferences, pacing, or other accessibility requirements.
Will you keep notes about our sessions?
I keep brief notes after sessions to support the therapeutic process. These are stored securely in line with UK data protection laws and are not shared without your consent, unless required for legal or safety reasons.
You have the right to request access to your records.
Do you receive supervision?
Yes — I attend regular professional supervision. This means I may discuss aspects of our work anonymously with a supervisor to ensure I am working safely, ethically, and in your best interests.
How does counselling end?
You are free to end counselling at any time. If possible, it can be helpful to have a planned ending so we can reflect on the work together.
I may also suggest ending if the work is no longer beneficial, attendance becomes inconsistent, or if your needs would be better supported elsewhere.
How do I get started?
You’re welcome to get in touch via email or phone to arrange an initial session. This gives us a chance to think together about what you’re looking for and whether working together feels like the right fit.
