Grounding techniques provide a way to reconnect with the 'here and now' when your mind or body feels pulled into past trauma or intense emotional states.

Grounding Techniques

 Sensory Grounding (5-4-3-2-1)

Physical Connection
Mental Orientation

Scan your environment to name:

  • 5 things you can see

  • 4 things you can feel

  • 3 things you can hear

  • 2 things you can smell

  • 1 thing you can taste

Press your feet into the floor. Hold onto a textured object firmly to bring your attention back to your body in the present.

Describe your surroundings or count backwards from 100. Say the current date and your location out loud clearly.

Slow your breath. Simply focus on the sensation of air entering and leaving your nostrils and chest with awareness.
